Support for Orlando: Prince Harry writes Orlando mayor after being there only last month

On June 14, Prince William and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge visited the United States Embassy in London to sign a condolence book for those who lost their lives in the worst mass shooting in the U.S. The same day, Prince Harry penned a letter to Orlando mayor sending his condolences.

Just over a month ago, at the start of May, Prince Harry was in Orlando to host the 2016 Invictus Games, pointing out in his letter that “Having just spent time in Orlando I know what a warm and welcoming community it is”. The Invictus Games which he founded for wounded veterans were immensely popular and even had the support of First Lady Michelle Obama, wife of U.S President Barak Obama.

The letter which was sent to Orlando mayor, Buddy Dyer offered Prince Harry’s “sincere condolences” to everyone affected by last Sunday’s attack at the gay club, Pulse. A lone gunman injured 53 and massacred 49, which number is suspected to rise according to doctors.

The full letter reads:

Dear Mayor Dyer,

I wanted to write and express my most sincere condolences to the people of Orlando after the horrific attack on the Pulse nightclub on Sunday.

Having just spent time in Orlando I know what a warm and welcoming community it is. In spite of this senseless act, I have no doubt that the love and friendship of your city will remain strong.

I would also like to pass on my deepest admiration to the law enforcement officers who attended the nightclub during the attack for their extraordinary bravery and professionalism.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones at this most difficult of times. You are all in our prayers as you face the days and weeks ahead.

Best wishes, Harry

In more support for the LGBT community, Prince William has made history as he landed the cover of the gay lifestyle magazine, Attitude.
