Prince Harry to attend The Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch

Kensington Palace have announced that Prince Harry will be the Guest of Honour at the ninth annual Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch, which is set to take place at London Guildhall on 7 April.

Each year, a Royal Guest of Honour is invited to take part in the lunch. The Princess Royal attend the eight edition in 2015, while the Prince of Wales was also among Royal Guests of Honour who featured in previous editions.

The event aims to raise funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the national Charity of the British Army. It will be hosted by the Lord Mayor, Alderman the Lord Mountevans, accompanied by Alderman and Sheriff Charles Bowman and Sheriff Dr Christine Ridgen.

Speaking on the occasion, President of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity General Sir Mike Jackson said: “We are delighted that His Royal Highness Prince Harry – who has himself served in the British Army – can join us on this occasion. His support means a great deal to the Charity and to those it supports.”

Over £1.4 million has been raised since the inception of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity (formerly known as the Army Benevolent Fund) in 2008, with the money being used to support soldiers and veterans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. The charity also provides grants to 80 representative charity entities, reaching around 70,000 people in need.

Over the years, the lunch has witnessed the participation of senior officers from the British Army, as well as businesses and professionals from the City. Politicians and members of both Houses of Parliament have also attended.

The charity announced that this year’s event will include several activities, as guests will be given the chance to win a diamond necklace and bid on exclusive prizes in the Silent Auction and Draw.

Prince Harry is currently on a tour to Nepal, which he extended for six days to help rebuild a school damaged during an earthquake.

  • Mr. Christian

I hope Prince Harry insists on taking some poor children–as I had been a bit poor, when I had my first curry meal. I sure, he will bring a sparkle to their eyes, if insists that they be treated with respect and good meal too. Further, I hope he absteins from alcoholic beverage: if any served; apart perhaps a beer. The tea that I miss among others now, is gunpowder tea.
