Prince Harry supports England’s women’s rugby

He was recently in Brazil to lend his support to Team England during the FIFA World Cup. Now, Prince Harry is a part of the campaign to support the England Women’s rugby team as they head to take part in the Women’s Rugby World Cup next month.

The England Women’s rugby team are going to be one of 12 teams participating in the World Cup, held at Paris from 1st to 17th August. Chris Robshaw, the captain of the Men’s team, launched a campaign backing Women’s rugby. The Prince aided him in this effort by recording a special message to support the team and carry them home victorious.

An avid sportsman, Prince Harry is the Vice Patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), as well as Patron of the Injured Players Foundation, a division of the RFU which supports English rugby players who have been injured while playing the sport. In 2004, he trained as a Rugby Development Officer for the RFU, and encourages school children to take up the sport.

In the message, Prince Harry says: “I’m calling on you to get behind the team.

“While we can’t all be there at the tournament to cheer them on in person, we want to send as many good luck messages as we can to let them know we’re right behind them. Good luck, and come on England.”

The captain of the Women’s rugby team, Katy Mclean, said that the Prince’s support has given the team a boost of confidence. “It is incredible to know that Prince Harry will be backing us as we head into the Rugby World Cup. It’s given all the girls in the squad a massive lift and we hope it will encourage lots more people to take an interest in women’s rugby and follow our progress in Paris.”
