Prince Harry plays polo while Meghan Markle cheers from royal box

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took a huge step forward in their relationship when the couple was spotted at a polo match at Coworth Park.

Markle made her first semi-formal appearance as Prince Harry’s girlfriend in the royal box at Audi Polo Challenge, causing royal watchers around the world to speculate that an engagement is not far off.

“Nobody had any idea Meghan was coming,” a fellow spectator told The Sun. “So it was a surprise to see her there.”

“She looked an absolute picture of happiness, laughing as the match was played.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been dating since late 2016. The Prince confirmed the relationship with an unprecedented statement blasting the “wave of abuse and harassment” that Meghan had received from the international press.

The weekend polo match was the first time Meghan had been officially seen with Prince Harry in England. The pair has frequently been snapped by the paparazzi both in London and in Toronto, where Meghan films the legal television series Suits.

The couple will make their next high-profile appearance at Pippa Middleton’s wedding. Prince Harry has been invited to the ceremony at St Mark’s Church in Englefield, and there is speculation that either Meghan will join him there, or will join him as his guest at the wedding reception.

Prince Harry played in Saturday’s polo match on behalf of his charities, Sentebale and WellChild. His brother, the Duke of Cambridge, also played.

Kensington Palace tweeted Sunday morning that Their Royal Highnesses will continue to play in charity polo matches throughout the summer to benefit their charities. To date, they have raised over £10 million for their organisations.

Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne, dancer Darcey Bussell, actor Tom Hardy, and Matt Smith, the actor who portrays the Duke of Edinburgh on Netflix’s The Crown, were also in attendance at the match.
