Prince Harry has been named as one of 2014’s most inspirational people in two separate polls conducted by The Daily Telegraph and The Discovery Channel.

The British based newspaper The Daily Telegraph asked its correspondents to name people who they consider to be their ‘Briton of the Year’. Gordon Rayner, the Chief Reporter of the newspaper chose Prince Harry.

His reasoning behind the choice was because of Harry’s vision and commitment to the Invictus Games, a Paralympic style event for injured service personnel. Mr Rayner said that many people had doubts over whether or not the games would go ahead because of the enormity of the challenge.

However, the Invictus Games proved to be a huge success, which was played out in front of the biggest sell out crowd since the London 2012 Olympics.

Other people alongside Prince Harry whom The Daily Telegraph writers considered to be their Britons of the Year were the UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, and teenager Stephen Sutton who raised millions of pounds for the Teenage Cancer Trust before he died in May at the age of nineteen.

The thirty year-old Prince was also on The Discovery Channel’s list of the most influential people in 2014, ranking in third place. Just as seen in The Daily Telegraph, Prince Harry made his way onto this list because of his hard work and dedication towards the Invictus Games.

Ranked above Prince Harry as the world’s most influential person was Stephen Sutton in second place, with campaigner for female rights and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Youzafzi coming in first position.

Speaking of the list, a Discovery Channel spokesman said: “From the Invictus Games to the poppy installation at Tower Bridge, the last 12 months has seen incredible stories of courage and inspiration from across the world.”
