Prince Harry & Meghan Markle to conduct their first official joint visit to Scotland next week

The couple to undertake their first official joint engagement in Scotland

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will undertake their first official joint engagement in Scotland next week as they visit the capital city, Edinburgh.

The royal visit will take place on Tuesday, 13th February, and will see the couple meet members of the public, learn about the local community, and celebrate young people as 2018 marks Scottish Year of Young People.

The engaged couple’s first stop will be Esplanade, located in front of Edinburgh Castle.

Here, they will be welcomed to the city by the Royal Marines Scotland Band. The 33-year-old Prince became Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Marines last year after his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, retired from public duties at the age of 96.

Once inside the castle, Harry and Meghan will watch the firing of the traditional One O’clock Gun. The gun has been fired daily since 1861 to mark the time for ships.

Later on in the day, Harry and Meghan will visit Social Bite, an Edinburgh based business and café.

Social Bite manages social enterprise cafés throughout Scotland. Through their platform, they distribute 100,000 items of food and drinks to the homeless each year.

The couple will meet the staff at the cafe, many of whom have experienced homelessness in the past..

For their final engagement, Harry and Meghan will attend a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to celebrate the achievements of young people.

The reception is being held to mark Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018.

This initiative aims to inspire the country through its young people.

Harry and Meghan have not visited Scotland before as a couple. They have previously visited Wales leaving Northern Ireland as the only nation of the United Kingdom that they have yet to visit.

They are engaged to be married in May with celebrations being planned across the nation.
