Prince Harry & Meghan Markle attend a Women’s Empowerment reception hosted by Boris Johnson

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended a Women’s Empowerment reception at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London on Thursday evening.

The event was hosted by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson as part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

As Harry and Meghan arrived at the venue, they were greeted by Mr Johnson, and his wife, Marina Wheeler.

The Women’s Empowerment reception brings together representatives from leading charities in the area of girls’ education.

Globally more than 130 million girls are not in school, and in conflict zones, girls are twice as likely to be out of school than boys.

At the reception, Boris Johnson launched his Platform for Girls Education –  a campaign which encourages all Commonwealth countries to commit to providing 12 years of quality education for all girls.

Harry and Meghan spoke to representatives from various charities and organisations committed to providing a platform for girls to have a quality education.

Representatives from organisations including the Malala Fund, Plan Global, the Varkey Foundation, and Code Camp were on hand to speak to the couple.

This reception was one of a number of events members of The Royal Family have been involved in as part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

On Thursday morning, The Queen officially opened the meeting of world leaders where she talked about the importance of stability and continuity going forward, and for the first time publicly lobbied for her son to succeed her as Head of the Commonwealth.

It is expected to be Her Majesty’s final time opening the CHOGM as she is not expected to travel to Malaysia in 2020.
