Prince Harry and Kylie Minogue announce host city for 2018 Invictus Games

With the immense success of the 2nd Invictus Games in Orlando Florida USA this past May, and with the 3rd Games coming up next year in Toronto Canada, Prince Harry has just announced the location of the 4th Invictus games. Sydney Australia will host the flagship sporting event for wounded veterans and service men and Women in a couple of years time.

In a video released by the Invictus Foundation, Prince Harry, with a little help from Australian popstar Kylie Minogue, revealed the 4th Invictus Games will be held from 18-29, October, 2018. The 500 plus athletes from the 17 competing countries will participate in 11 sports. These events will be held in the Sydney Harbor and at Sydney Olympic Park.

In the video announcement, Prince Harry listed three criteria for hosting an Invictus Games. First, the location has to be internationally known, an “iconic” spot, as Harry said. Secondly, the host city must embrace all the Invictus athletes from the world over. Finally, the city must be, “sports mad”. It must love sports and get behind the events and all the athletes competing in their city.

The mission of The Invictus Games is to help wounded military regain their “fighting spirit.” Their wounds aren’t just physical, they can be emotional and psychological, as many past and current service members suffer with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD, in particular, was a major focus of these past Games in Orlando. Prince Harryemphasisedd the importance of educating the world about these unseen wounds veterans and current service members may suffer with and how those with the ability to assist them can be most successful.

During the Games, there is no official medal tally count kept. The games are all about the personal journeys of every athlete.
