Prince Harry and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hold bilateral talks in Toronto

Prince Harry was joined by the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, on Saturday as the two held bilateral talks in Toronto.

Following on from his meeting with the First Lady of the United States, the young Prince sat down with Mr Trudeau to talk about the Invictus Games and the UK-Canada relationship generally.

Ahead of the Invictus Opening Ceremony, Prince Harry told the Prime Minister that ‘there’s a real buzz around Toronto’.

Following the meeting, Mr Trudeau tweeted: “As we get ready to open the #InvictusGames, I sat down with Prince Harry to talk about the power of sport & positive impact of the games.”

The meeting comes shortly after The Queen’s grandson met Melania Trump. According to those in the room, the prince looked uneasy as he made small talk with the First Lady.

Upon greeting Prince Harry, Melania said: “Thank you. Thank you so much for coming.”

The Prince’s final bilateral meeting of the day was with outgoing Canadian Governor General David Johnston and his wife, Sharon Johnston.

Speaking to the couple, Harry said: “Its always a pleasure to be in Canada”

Mr Johnston will leave the position of Governor General after the games conclude, and will be replaced by former astronaut, Julie Payette.

Ms Payette was received by The Queen for the first time at Balmoral Castle earlier this week.

The day will end off on a celebratory note as the Opening Ceremony takes place at the Air Canada Centre with a line-up including Sarah McLachlan, Alessia Cara, The Tenors and Comedian Mike Myers.

Hopes are high that Meghan Markle, the humanitarian and actress dating the prince, will be in attendance but as the time grows closer, it is looking all the more unlikely.
