Prince Harry and Alexander Skarsgard face off in Charity Race

Walking for the Wounded’s South Pole Allied Challenge has garnered much attention this year as Prince Harry of Wales will be joined in the charity competition by True Blood’s own leading man, Alexander Skarsgard, who is a former Swedish Marine.

medium_4551581339The Swedish-born actor, best known for his work on True Blood, as Eric Northman, will join Prince Harry as well as male and female members of service personnel who have sustained mental and physical injuries in the line of duty. The walk will be a brutal 335km, 4 week trek spanning across Antarctica and ending at the South Pole. The teams will have to face not only their own limitations, but also the harsh and treacherous conditions of Antarctica; this means temperatures well below 0ºC and freezing winds going up to 50 mph, not to mention blizzards and heavy equipment.

Alexander and Prince Harry both feel quite passionate about Walking with the Wounded due to their shared Military experience and backgrounds, and they hope to bring awareness of those injured in the line of duty and also to raise donations and funds for the charity to aid those wounded warriors. Alexander, who will be competing on the United States team, will face off against Prince Harry and the Glenfiddich Team. Joining them will be Dominic West, best known from The Wire, on the Commonwealth Team.

Alexander has already begun training with his team for the expedition, as has Prince Harry who recently spent 24-hours in an Ice Chamber to ready his body for the freezing temperatures of Antarctica.

The three teams will set out on November 15th, but you needn’t travel to Antarctica to get a front row seat of all the action! ITV will be broadcasting the entire competition in a two-part, one hour documentary special.
