A petition has been launched urging Theresa May to bar Meghan Markle from having an official role or title when she marries into The Royal Family later this year.
The petition, which contains questionable undertones, has gathered 3,000 signatures.

Opinion by Royal Central’s Editor, Charlie Proctor
The petition states that Meghan Markle isn’t suitable to become a member of The Royal Family because she is a divorcee.
One can only presume that renders The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Princess Royal and the Duke of York unsuitable as well?
Similarly, the petition states: “No member of the Royal Family should have naked images of them freely available on the internet as she does.”
Presumably, that also renders the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Countess of Wessex and the Duke of York unsuitable to be royals as well?

A letter addressed to the Prime Minister attached to the petition reads: “The undersigned believe that Meghan Markle is unsuitable to be a member of the Royal Family and to have an official position in representing this country.
“She has shown her disrespect for the Monarch and Royal Family by pulling faces and sticking her tongue out to the visitors during her first public appearance with the Queen.
Her attitude and actions in Nottingham and Brixton shows her lack of respect towards Harry and the Royal Family and it’s traditions and protocol. The fact that she turned up in an outfit designed to support a political cause and talked about gender issues shows she has no intention of giving up on her political beliefs.”
The letter goes on to accuse Miss Markle of being unsuitable because she is a divorcee as well as being a successful actress.
The irony is, that after examining those who have signed the petition, hardly any of them live in the United Kingdom. Most reside in the United States.
Meghan Markle will marry Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel in May and will be given a title alongside Prince Harry.
Some of the possibilities for their new title include the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Duke and Duchess of Clarence.

Sour grapes from a bunch of narrow minded, envious, would-be somebodies IMO. Pathetic! They will be ignored by most intelligent people.
Totally agree. What a miserable bunch of bigots! It’s nothing to do with anyone what role Meghan will play here once married to Prince Harry, so stop interfering!
She will be constrained by royal protocols as all the royals are but she has already made a considerable impression within the Royal family to have been accepted at Sandringham, which is most unusual.
How wicked and mean can some people be?
What wrong with thier mental capacity reasoning ? She has been accepted by the British people and accepted by the Royal family members, so what the cause of this petition, as the Christian’s would say enemies of progress. Something must be done about hate preachers by the government.
Some people just thing they can just wake up ,and start to write hurtful comments about people. Prince Harry is a intelligent and highly respected responsible man who has found love so what’s wrong.
It is not a criminal offence to express ourselves but when it turns out into being judgmental and sentiment.
This is nonsense and rubbish. Please leave our princess alone!!
Although I knew nothing about the petition, I would call it silly as of course it would go no where. However – successful actress? Nothing mainstream that I can find. Marrying a divorcee – should be no problem with that.
From someone that lives in the U.S. – you blokes can have her. AND..she can take her narrow mindedness with her, thank you very much!
“Take her narrow mindedness with her” WOW!!! It looks like a Trump supporter has their underwear in a knot. If you can’t see that your comment doesn’t make you any better than the people that started and signed this petition then you are truly blind and delusional.
Take your judgmental (and incorrect) fanny and pack it!
That is totally vile. Narrow-minded bigot exist sadly ..
I understand why you wrote a piece on this subject, but I wished you hadn’t. This is what they want to draw attention. They feed on it and to legitimize and validate their racist opinion. It is best to ignore and not engage them.
If any of the signatories are real people, or are still living and able to sign a petition. Maybe someone decided to take a page from the FCC’s playbook. Anyway, this is a disgusting and hateful thing, and the best thing that Ms. May could do is completely ignore it.
