Earlier this week, Prince Andrew joined the social media site Twitter using the handle @TheDukeOfYork.
The Royal has now followed his former wife Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, on the popular site. The Duchess has been on Twitter for several years now and was one of the first to send Andrew a congratulatory message as he became the third member of the British Royal Family.
“Congratulations on joining twitter,” the Duchess tweeted to her former husband.
“So exciting lots to say great event with Novak Djokovic,” she added as she made reference to a charity gala hosted by Novak Djokovic in London that she attended on Monday evening.
As the Duke followed his former wife back, BBC’s Peter Hunt joked: “No longer awkward. @TheDukeOfYork has reciprocated and is now following his ex-wife @SarahTheDuchess. Now they can DM each other.:
The Duke of York joined the social media site on Monday morning and has so far amassed 30,000 followers. The father of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie follows The Queen and Prince Charles who are both represented by a Twitter page.
Andrew sent the first message tweeting “Welcome to my Twitter account- AY,” and the page has since tweeted showing the Prince at various royal engagements.
The Prince’s Twitter page continues an exciting period for the royal, who recently launched a re-design of his website.
The Duke of York becomes the third member of the British Royal Family to join Twitter and in recent years Royals from around the world have used social media sites to support and show their charity work.
