Safe Haven for Donkey’s in the Holy Land is a British charity that cares for working and abandoned donkeys in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The charity was founded by Lucy Fensom in 2000 after she had encountered a badly wounded animal and purchased him from his owners in Bedouin so that he could spend the rest of his life at a peaceful sanctuary in Cambridgeshire. The charity’s first sanctuary was set up by Lucy after she rented a small barn and field on a kibbutz called Gezer.
Princess Alexandra generously accepted the invitation from Safe Haven to become Royal Patron in October 2011. The charity’s other Patron’s include Ann Widdecombe, Anthony Head and Des Lynam.
Amongst many other things, some of the charity’s main missions include promoting the basic welfare of donkeys, obtain a small holding of land for shelter and protection as well as guaranteeing that any animal they find will be able to live free from the burdens of toil, stress and suffering. Safe Haven also work together with other animal welfare organisations to combine their mutual efforts and hasten an end to suffering.
The Safe Haven for Donkey’s in the Holy Land sanctuary is located in a farming community just ten miles from the coastal town of Netanya in Israel.
Tickets for the 15th anniversary ball will cost £85 and to find out more about the extravaganza click here.
