Prince Michael’s first granddaughter named ‘Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina’

This is the first grandchild for The Queen's cousin Prince Michael.

This is the first grandchild for The Queen’s cousin Prince Michael.

It has emerged that the first child of Lord Fredrick Windsor and Lady Fredrick Windsor (known as Sophie Winkleman) has been named Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina.

The first grandchild of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Maud Windsor was born at the weight of 7lb yesterday at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles.

Maud is 42nd in line to the throne, taking the place of Lady Gabriella Windsor, sister of Lord Fredrick, and moving everyone below down a place. Maud is likely to remain untitled for her life as she is not automatically entitled to a title by birth like Lord Fredrick was.

Maud will remain in line to the throne unless she becomes (or a the moment, marries) a Roman Catholic.

The Queen has been informed of the birth.

The origin of the names has not been mentioned but it is likely that the name Marina comes from Lord Fredrick’s grandmother, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent.

Lord and Lady Fredrick remain with Maud in LA, where Sophie (Lady Fredrick) pursues an acting career and Lord Fredrick is a financial analyst.

It is not known when the couple and their new baby girl will return to the UK.

This was the second of three births we’re aware are currently impending in the Royal Family. The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to Prince George last month and Zara Phillips is expected to give birth to what will be The Queen’s fourth great grandchild in the new year.

Maud Windsor is first cousin twice removed of Her Majesty The Queen.

The line of succession on the Royal website has already been updated to show Maud Windsor at 42nd-in-line.
