New star lands the coveted role of Lady Diana Spencer in season 4 of The Crown

Season three of The Crown might not have hit our screens yet, but we’ve already got the next season to look forward to as breaking casting news was released Tuesday. Lady Diana Spencer will be played by newcomer Emma Corrin in season four, according to a press release from Netflix.

“Beyond excited and honoured to be joining The Crown for its fourth season,” said Corrin. “I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal.”

The young actress only has three credits on IMDB, but viewers might recognise her from her guest role in ITV’s Grantchester. She’ll make her film debut this year in Misbehaviour, a drama about a group of women seeking to disrupt the 1970 Miss World beauty competition.

Corrin also will star in an upcoming 10-part Warner Brothers/EPIX series Pennyworth, whichchronicles former SAS Soldier Alfred Pennyworth – better known as the butler to Bruce Wayne in the Batmen series.”

The Crown‘s Peter Morgan shared his enthusiasm for Corrin’s casting as Lady Diana Spencer: “Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer. As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation.”

“Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring,” Corrin added. “To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice!”

Season three of The Crown will air this year, although there has been no official release date just yet. The season will focus on the 1960s and 1970s, but fans will likely have a long wait until they meet Corrin as Lady Diana. Netflix confirmed series four, which will include Charles and Diana’s relationship, will begin filming later in 2019.
