Duke and Duchess of Gloucester to visit storm-hit coastal towns

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will visit the storm-hit bays of Porthleven and Mullion as they tour Cornwall on May 27th-28th.

During their time at the coast, Prince Richard and Birgitte will meet with local dignitaries, including the mayor, as well as representatives of organisations based at the port of Porthleven; the harbour had to be cleared of boats and debris after a storm breached the harbour’s defences earlier this year.

A trip to Penlee House Gallery and Museum in Penzance will be followed by the Royal couple going their separate ways to attend other engagements; The Duke will go to Penzance Promenade and Camborne Pool Redruth Food Bank, followed by a tour of Godolphin House and meet with 6th Battalion The Rifles. The Duke holds a number of honorary military appointments, including one with 6th Battalion, and takes an interest in social welfare issues, hence his visit to a food bank, which are reporting increasing numbers of people in need of food parcels.

The Duchess will be visiting Mullion Harbour whilst away from her husband, which also faced damage from the powerful storms. Princess Richard will then get a treat touring Trenance Chocolate Factory and then Origin Coffee company, Cornwall famous for its sweet treats and cream teas. Her day will conclude meeting a community dance group, TR14ers, whose name is taken from the postcode of Truro.

On the 28th, the couple will travel to see the Tate Gallery and Porthmeor Studios in St Ives;  Richard will then pay a visit to the Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro, while The Duchess will spend some time at Leach Pottery, as well as a youth theatre company, Kidz R Us, also in St Ives, before heading home.
