Every Royal Watcher who heads out to an official event hopes for the chance to meet one of the members of the Royal Family. Pensioner Irene Hardman has seemed to figure out they way to Prince Harry’s heart.
The 81-year-old Nottingham resident comes out whenever any member of the Royal Family is in town; she was there for Prince Harry’s visit yesterday and his last one this past October at the new Central Police Station, both times with a bag of Haribo sweets.
Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Irene said: “I gave Prince Charles some Haribo to give to William and Harry when they were younger.
“He was at the Adam’s Building in the Lace Market. They are our Royal Family; we should appreciate them and be proud of them.
“They come back to Nottingham because they are so interested in the projects here, like in St Ann’s with the young people.
“Whenever he comes to Nottingham Prince Harry will get his Haribos. They are only 50p. I have heard they are his favourite sweets.
“Today’s ones are Haribo’s little jelly men. I hope he comes over. I used to give them to his dad Prince Charles when he came here. I said there is one for William and one for Harry.”
Prince Harry has taken note of Irene, greeting in exchange for the sweets. When the two met last time in October, Irene had the chance to tell him about the time she met his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
“We met Diana some years ago at the Playhouse and it was a day like this, raining, and she came up to me and said ‘make sure you get home quickly and get dried out’, and I told Harry that last time he was here” she added on to the Nottingham Post.
“I shook his hand and said ‘your mum would be so proud of you’, and he said ‘do you think so?’ and I said ‘yes’.”
Irene found the edge, yet it would be a safe bet half the crowd shows up with a bag of Haribo sweets at Prince Harry’s next engagement!
