This evening, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a special gala performance of Hamilton.
The evening was in support of Sentebale; the foundation Prince Harry set up with Prince Seeiso in 2006 that supports youth in Lesotho and Botswana with HIV.
Hamilton was created by Lin-Manuel Miranda telling the tale of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. The musical has captivated audiences with a score of s hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway. The production has gone on to win all Olivier, Tony and Grammy awards.
Upon arrival, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met with representatives of Sentebale, Lin-Manuel and his wife, Vanessa at a reception before watching the award-winning performance.
The Duchess was dressed in a tuxedo dress by Canadian designer Judith & Charles with her hair pulled back in a bun.
According to royal reporter Emily Andrews, the couple was overheard talking about one of the play’s characters, King George III. George III is Harry’s sixth great-grandfather.
George III is portrayed as a comical character in the play, and the response has been different in the United States compared to England.
This won’t be the first time the couple as watched the musical as they had a date night in February where they were spotted enjoying the performance.
Tonight’s engagement is the first for the newlyweds since returning from summer break.
On 4 September, the two will attend the WellChild Awards in which Prince Harry has been patron of for the last 10 years.
Then on 6 September, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will watch a one-time-only concert. 100 Days of Peace will honour the centenary of the end of the First World War and will be held at Central Hall Westminster.
The evening will be hosted by Royal Armouries to support charities that support military veterans dealing with mental health challenges. Help for Heroes, Combat Stress and Heads Together – The Royal Foundation’s campaign and mental health initiative will benefit from the concert.
