Suits viewers continue to decrease since Duchess of Sussex’s departure

The hit American TV show Suits has continued to see a decrease in ratings since the Duchess of Sussex announced her departure from the show earlier this year.

The Duchess of Sussex played paralegal Rachel Zane for seven consecutive seasons. In 2017, during the time of her engagement, she announced that she would be “transitioning” out of her acting career in order to focus on her new life as a member of the British Royal Family.

The eighth season of Suits is averaging 1.2 million viewers an episode so far, whereas the seventh season had an average of 1.3 million viewers per episode. However, even when the Duchess was still a part of the show, figures continued to decline over the years.

Season five of Suits had an average of 2 million viewers per episode whereas the sixth season had an average of 1.59 million viewers an episode. The show is also losing viewers among the key demo of adults aged 18-49: the current season is averaging 317,000 demo viewers which is down from the 432,000 for season seven.

In May of this year, the Duchess of Sussex married Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, at Windsor Castle which signified the moment the Duchess stopped being an actress and became royalty.

The Duchess of Sussex wasn’t the only one to depart from the show as Patrick J. Adams also exited Suits earlier this year. Adams played lead character Mike Ross who was the on-screen love interest of Rachel Zane (the Duchess of Sussex). In Suits, they got married and moved from New York to Seattle, ending their characters’ journeys in the show.

In total, the Duchess of Sussex appeared in 108 episodes of Suits since the premiere in 2011. The Duchess has also acted in TV shows CSI: NY and 90210 as well as the film Horrible Bosses in 2011.
