State trumpeters will have the ‘hardest job in the world’ during Royal Wedding

The State trumpeters will have the hardest job in the world as they perform for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, it has been said.

The State Fanfare Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry will have to stand in attention for around half an hour. Instrument maker Richard Smith says then “they’ve got to raise their trumpet up to their lips and start playing a note immediately. They’ve got to get it right, first time, in front of millions.”

He added, “It’s probably the hardest musical job in the world.”

Richard Smith has created instruments for 28 years; he made the trumpets that will be used in the wedding.

The trumpets are stamped with the royal coat of arms. Smith says they are a “bit more bling than their predecessors.”

The State Fanfare Trumpeters only play for The Queen, other senior royals, and the Lord Mayor of London.

Smith talked about the history of the Trumpeters saying that they have been used for “centuries and centuries for Emperors, Kings, and Queens.”

Smith also supplied the trumpets for the wedding of Prince William and then Kate Middleton. This came as a “big surprise” to him as he had not been warned beforehand.

Trumpet Major Matthew-Screen told the Press Association they would be playing at St George’s Chapel on the wedding day.

They will play a royal salute for the entrance of The Queen, as well as a salute for the arrival of the bridge.

When asked about the pressure of the role he said: “It is all about instilling enough confidence in the guys, and training and preparing that well that we are prepared until we can’t get it wrong.”

He added, “At the end of the day when it comes to being in that chapel, we are the best in the world wat what we do- and we will perform like we are.”
