Prince Harry to Visit Nepal

Kensington Palace yesterday announced that Prince Harry will be visiting Nepal this Spring, at the same time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will make a trip to Bhutan and India.

This will be the first visit to Nepal for Prince Harry who follows a long list of members of the Royal Family who have toured the country in the past including. The Queen visited in 1986 following the previous trip with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh in 1961. The Duke went back another two times in 1965 and 2000 with his daughter, Princess Anne. The Prince of Wales has been four times and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester only once in 1975.

Harry will be the first Royal Visit since Nepal became a republic in 2008.

In a statement sent out by Kensington Palace, it said: “the visit is being undertaken at the request of Her Majesty’s Government and will be the first time Prince Harry has visited the country”.

It went on to further say: “Full details of the visit will be confirmed in due course,”

It is rumored that Prince Harry will be there to see how the country is rebuilding after the tragic 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Kathmandu, the country’s capital, that killed over 9,000 people and left another 23.000 people injured.

Some reports by British Media outlets have suggested that the Prince will visit Nepal in February despite the press release noting that the tour will take place in the Spring.

We do know that Prince Harry will be visiting Orlando, Florida in May where he will be hosting his Invictus Games. Last summer Harry announced that the games would be held in the US for the first time in 2016.

Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also had another royal visit announced yesterday. Following their trip to India, the couple will journey onto to Bhutan where they will visit King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan and his wife Jestsun Pema.
