It has been announced that Prince Harry will be a guest editor on an episode of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme before Christmas.
Using the opportunity, the fifth-in-line to the throne will focus on issues like mental health and conservation. Topics that are close to him.
A statement from Kensington Palace said: “Prince Harry is grateful to have Today’s considerable reach to shine a spotlight on a number of issues that are close to his heart.
“He is working closely with Today’s team to produce segments on a range of topics, including youth violence, conservation, and mental health.”
Prince Harry isn’t the only big name joining the guest editor position for the Christmas specials. Booker prize-winning author and poet Benjamin Okri, Conservative peer Baroness Trumpington and artificial intelligence (AI) are also lending their hand.
Harry won’t even be the first royal to take a turn, in 2004 Sarah Ferguson, who was then the Duchess of York, had her chance.
Other big names who have taken part in the past are Olympic champion boxer Nicola Adams, IAAF president Lord Sebastian Coe and Stephen Hawking.
Sarah Sands, the show’s editor, described Prince Harry’s programme as “very, very interesting” as she confirmed the news to the Evening Standard.
Benjamin Okri will be discussing funding for the arts with the artistic director of the English National Ballet, Tamara Rojo through political poems.
Having spent 40 years in the House of Lords before retirement, Baroness Trumpington will hold a debate over the legalisation of brothels and use of plain English in politics.
Yet, possibly the editor that will stand out the most is AI. AI is used to operate many devices such as the Amazon Echo smart speaker and Apple is using AI to improve Siri. Experts in the field will discuss how AI has taken over our lives, both at home and at work.
