Prince Harry: Run for worthy cause

The 2017 London Marathon could be the launchpad for conversation on mental health, Prince Harry has said.

Addressing the public in a video message, the fifth to the throne appealed for those still undecided to sign up and run in support of the Heads Together charity.

The message is part of a wider campaign spearheaded by Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with the ambition to end stigma surrounding mental health problems.

The 32-year-old royal said, “Congratulations if you’ve got a place in the Virgin Money London Marathon. I hope the first timers among you are more excited than scared.

”Everyone runs the marathon for a different reason and for fantastic causes. If you already have a place and are undecided who to run for, William, Katherine and I would like to invite you to run with Heads Together.”

Heads Together- launched in coordination with the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry earlier this year- has been chosen as the charity of the year for next year’s Virgin Money London Marathon 2017. Runners will be raising money for charities that provide mental health support.

Harry said that the event could mark the start of the biggest movement on mental health.

‘’if you are already running, or planning to run for another great cause, there will be lots of other ways to show your support and help make it the marathon for mental health.

‘’Together, we can start the biggest ever national movement to end stigma on mental health and change the conversation for everyone.

‘’The three of us can’t wait to cheer you on. See you at the finish line.’’

The message ends with the prince donning the Heads Together blue headband before bursting into laughter.

Those wishing to run in support of Heads Together can sign up on the charity’s website here.
