Prince Harry begins “dream job” as he travels to Africa

According to reports in People.com, Prince Harry has revealed that getting the chance to work alongside Dr Pete Morkel is a “dream”.8741370994_3cc91990e9_b

Prince Harry has embarked for a summer in Africa to dedicate his time to conservation efforts. He will be shadowing Dr Morkel, a top veterinarian, known for his humane techniques to safely capture and relocate animals – often using a helicopter.

Three weeks will be spent in Namibia, Africa with Dr Morkel to combat threats to endangered species – Pete Morkel is also an expert in anti-poaching strategies.

“For me, it’s three months of hard grafting, working with animals. To actually get the chance to embed myself with the top vet in southern Africa, travel with him for three weeks and every job he gets called up to do. That’s like my dream.”  Prince Harry said.

During his three months abroad the Prince will spend time in Tanzania, Botswana and South Africa working with conservationists and fellow staff to protect Africa’s natural heritage.

“Black rhinos are being pushed to extinction by the illegal trade in rhino horn. Across Africa, rangers are outnumbered and outgunned by poachers.” said Africa Conservation Director of The Nature Conservancy, Matt Brown.

“We’re grateful that Prince Harry is bringing attention to this critically endangered species, and to this organisation that’s very worthy of support.”

The Nature Conservancy supports Save the Rhino on the ground in Namibia. Save the Rhino works together with its partners to support endangered rhinos in Africa and Asia by raising worldwide awareness, by ensuring local communities in rhino areas benefit from employment, outreach, and education, and by reducing the consumer demand for rhino horns.

A family trend, Prince Harry actively works towards animal conservation like his father, the Prince of Wales, and his brother, Prince William.

Together with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Harry started United for Wildlife, a wildlife charity that works to create a global movement for change. The prince is now an ambassador for the organisation.
