The Duchess of Sussex has begun her maternity leave according to Vanity Fair.
Her Royal Highness’s last official engagements were on Monday when she visited Canada House with the Duke of Sussex and attended the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey alongside The Queen, Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Duke of Sussex, and Duke of York.
Amidst months of rumours, the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex embraced at the Commonwealth Day Service in an attempt to put those rumours finally to rest.
While she will not be making any public appearances, sources have stated that the Duchess of Sussex will continue to hold private meetings.
The timing of her maternity leave is similar to those taken by her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, with all three of her pregnancies.
Meghan’s first child is due at the end of April/beginning of May. Kensington Palace has not confirmed where the Duchess will give birth. Details of the hospital where Her Royal Highness will deliver are expected in the next few weeks.
If they know the gender of their child, the Duke and Duchess have not made it public knowledge.
The child, who will be born a dual UK/US citizen, will be seventh in line to the throne.
It will be a busy time for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they are expected to move to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor ahead of the birth.
Kensington Palace announced that the Duchess of Sussex was expecting her and the Duke’s first child ahead of their autumn tour of Australia in October 2018. At the time, the Palace said that the couple were “delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
The couple married at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on 19 May 2018.
