Prince Harry has revealed how he proposed to American actress Meghan Markle during a TV interview with the broadcasters.
The 33-year-old Prince appeared alongside his 36-year-old fiancée in an interview with the BBC’s Mishal Husain who asked questions on behalf of all the broadcasters.
In the interview, it was revealed that Harry proposed to Meghan by getting down on one knee while they were cooking dinner.
Prince Harry said: “It happened a few weeks ago here at the cottage and it was just a standard typical night for us.”
Meghan added: “We were just roasting chicken and it was just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet, natural and very romantic – he got on one knee.”
The soon to be bride joked that she said yes instantly before the Prince even finished proposing.
The couple also revealed that they met through a blind date arranged by a friend.
Harry, who is fifth-in-line to the throne, said Meghan “just tripped and fell into my life”.
He added that if his mother was still alive, she and Meghan would be “thick as thieves… best friends”.
Earlier today, the couple appeared together in the grounds of Kensington Palace for a photocall to commemorate their engagement.
The Prince and his fiancée posed in the Sunken Gardens and answered a couple of questions posed to them by reporters.
When asked whether the proposal was romantic, the 33-year-old Prince replied: “of course it was”.
He added that he “knew Meghan was the one straight away.”
The engagement ring is made of diamonds and was designed by Prince Harry himself. It includes one stone from Botswana and two diamonds from his mother’s personal collection.
