Prince Philip

The Duke of Edinburgh’s 100th birthday to be marked with a solar eclipse

The Duke of Edinburgh will share his 100th birthday with a solar eclipse which will be visible across most of Britain.

In what is guaranteed to be a day of celebrations, June 10, 2021, will be a historic day as The Queen’s husband celebrates the centenary of his birth alongside the partial solar eclipse.

For people living in the UK, a maximum of 35 per cent of the sun will be obstructed.

The last solar eclipse to occur in the UK was in March 2015 where the moon obstructed 85 per cent of the sun.

Prince Philip sharing his birthday with a solar eclipse will no doubt bring joy to conspiracy theorists.

The Royal Family often celebrate significant events alongside unusual lunar activity.

In 2013, Prince George was born under a supermoon on the 22nd of July 2013. Also, The Duke of Cambridge was also born during a rare solar event called a summer solace. The Duchess of Cambridge was born under a total lunar eclipse in the same year.

The royals and the moon have been the inspiration for many legends and tales over the years.

In the latter years of King George III’s reign, the monarch refused to leave the palace unless he was covered in the moonlight. Otherwise, his skin was said to blister.
