Prince Philip “still thinks he’s 55” says grandson

He might be turning 95-years-old next week, but The Duke of Edinburgh’s grandson, Peter Phillips, has said that he still thinks he is 55.

Speaking about his grandfather’s health, Peter Phillips said: “He’s nearly 95 but his head thinks he’s 55.”

Last week, there was mild concern for the Queen’s husband after he was forced to pull out of an engagement commemorating the 100th anniversary if the Battle of Jutland following medical advice.

Mr Phillips, who Princess Anne’s son and Zara Tindall’s elder brother, said: “I think he is OK. It was a sensible decision given the weather and all the rest of it.

“You worry about your grandparents every day. Just the same as everyone does.”

The 38-year-old was speaking ahead of the Patron’s Lunch which will be held on The Mall next Sunday as part of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday celebrations.

The Patron’s Lunch will attract 10,000 guests to the Mall outside of Buckingham Palace where they will take part in a huge street party. Tickets, which cost £150 per person, are being allocated through a ballot system and will see thousands of people will join guests from more than 600 charities of which The Queen is patron.

Peter Philips organised the event for his grandmother who is said to be “very touched” by the country’s affection of her.

Mr Philips was keen to stress however, that his grandparents were not slowing down in their duties.

He said: “The Duke is as determined as ever to plough on and keep things as normal as possible. His mind still wants to do what he did when he was 55.

“I don’t think it’s a secret that they’re both looking to reduce their workload and the younger members of the family are definitely taking on a lot more.

“Certainly, the Duke is now at the point where he only wants to do things that he enjoys.”
