The Duke of Edinburgh has ended 2017 with one of his infamous gaffes after he left a crowd of wellwishers stunned when he asked if one of them was a terrorist.
On his way to church at Sandringham, Prince Philip spotted a man with a long ginger beard. He then pointed at the man and shouted: “Is that a terrorist?”
According to the Telegraph, an onlooker said: “The man appeared to be his with wife and child. Philip was wishing lots of people a Happy New Year and then he spotted this guy with his distinctive beard.
“He pointed at him in a funny way and turned to one of his Royal bodyguards, saying: ‘Is that a terrorist?’
“He was obviously having a little joke, but he said it within earshot of the man who burst out laughing and appeared to find the whole thing hilarious. I think Philip knew he was going to be overheard.
The Duke retired from official duties earlier in 2017, and now only makes rare appearances in public.
We can be sure, however, that on the few public appearances he does make in the years to come, they will make it into the newspapers for all the wrong reasons.
The Royal Family always make it into the newspapers for all the wrong reasons, usually at the expense of items that are actually news. Is this remark honestly worthy of the least bit of attention, let alone a lengthy article?
It’s not even particularly funny or controversial although no doubt those who thrive on Royal News will find their cockles warmed slightly for a moment or two before they settle down to wait for the next non-story.
so glad the Duke is still on form….love his sense of humour……and the “terrorist” apparently did as well….Happy New Year, Sir!
“Sense of humour”? The man is terminally dense.
That´s what senility does to people
Huh?? He’s been saying stuff like that for 60 years. Don’t blame senility.
he doesn’t approve of mass hysteria, or its promoters. Almost wish he could have a go at idiot trump….
