Best Dressed man in Royal Family isn’t who you think it is

What is one thing that the Duke of Edinburgh and One Direction member Harry Styles have in common? They are both near the top of the new GQ best-dressed list.

Prince Philip, 94, came in twelfth place in the magazine’s 2016 style rankings. The Queen’s husband even beat his 31-year-old grandson, Prince Harry who came in a slightly disappointing 38th place.

Philip continues to dress in a classic style, never sparing the full formal look complete with top hats, tastefully coordinated ties and old-fashioned accessories. He is known for his custom John Kent tailored suits which he wore for many of his 217 official engagements at home and 33 abroad in 2015.

Prince Harry, on the other hand, tends to fall for more relaxed styles; with open collars, polo shirts, and untamed hair.

However, there were two members of the Royal Family that were left off of the top 2016 list that both placed last year. Prince Charles, who frequently appears the list and ranked 7th last year is missing, as is his grandson, Prince George, who was the youngest member of the top 50 last year.

GQ’s top 10 dressed men were:

  • Eddie Redmayne
  • Nick Grimshaw
  • Sam Smith
  • David Beckham
  • Patrick Grant
  • Harry Styles
  • Skepta
  • Romeo Beckham
  • Benedict Cumberbatch
  • David Gandy

The worst dressed list was led by Paul Hollywood, baker and judge on the Great British Bake Off. Others who joined the him were comedian Josh Widdicombe following in second, The Only Way is Essex’s Jake Hall in third place and new host of Top Gear, Chris Evan rounding out the top ten.

Prince William has also previously made the worst-dressed list back in 2008 for not getting “the hang of age-appropriate” attire. Since suffering that fate, he has been included in the best-dressed list. It has been suggested by GQ that the Duchess of Cambridge’s influence has had a large part to play in that jump up the list.

The best and worst dressed lists are decided by GQ staff and panel of fashion experts including, designer Tom Ford, fashion designer Giorgio Armani, and model Lara Stone.

If Prince Philip is the best dressed man in the Royal Family, then why does his jacket pull when buttoned up? Surely his jacket should have a smooth finish to it when buttoned up, not a wrinkled finish where it is buttoned up.
