King Charles IIIThe Sussexes

Will the Prince of Wales be able to meet his grandson before his tour of Germany starts tomorrow?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed their first baby, a son. No doubt the grandparents of the little baby will be eager to meet the newest addition to the family. However, it is possible that the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall won’t be able to visit Baby Sussex as soon as they would like.

Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are currently preparing to leave for Germany. As of tomorrow, Tuesday morning, the couple will undertake a four-day visit to Germany. The tour has been on the agenda for a while and is not likely to be cancelled. Will the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall miss the opportunity to visit their new grandchild before departing?

Even though the Duchess of Sussex has given birth to a baby boy today, there is a chance the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will not be able to visit Frogmore Cottage to meet the little one. The royal couple has a packed agenda for the coming four days, and the pair will have to leave tonight/early Tuesday morning to start their journey.

The visit of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall is part of their so-called “Brexit tour” as they will try to strengthen the bonds of the UK and Germany before the UK will leave the European Union later this year. Even though the royal couple does not get involved with politics, these “soft politics” visits will possibly influence the political relationship between the UK and mainland Europe.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall undertake this trip “at the request of the British Government.” The visit is expected to “demonstrate the depth and breadth of the UK–Germany bilateral relationship and its enduring importance to both countries.”

During their four-day visit, Charles and Camilla will visit Berlin, Leipzig and Munich. Among other things, the Prince of Wales will meet the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and the Royal Couple will also attend The Queen’s birthday party at the residence of the British Ambassador.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will end their trip Friday, 10 May and might have to wait until then to meet their new grandson.

The little boy’s other grandparent, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland has already met her first grandson as she is staying with the couple at their Windsor home.
