The Duchess of Cornwall to star in Strictly Come Dancing’s Christmas special

The Duchess of Cornwall will feature in the Christmas special of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing it has been revealed.

Camilla will host a special Strictly event at Buckingham Palace, and the cast and crew will be on hand to film the occasion.

The festive episode will be broadcast on Christmas Day, and along with the usual dances, will feature a film showing a tea dance at the Palace, hosted by the Duchess.

The stars of Strictly Come Dancing will also be at the event which will highlight the importance of exercising as people get older.

In a statement, the BBC said: “As part of this year’s Strictly Christmas Special, there will be a festive feature from inside Buckingham Palace.

“Hosted by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, our Strictly family and members of the local community will attend a Tea Dance highlighting the benefits of dance and exercise in the process of active ageing.

“There will also be a beautiful performance from the Strictly professional dancers.”

Although the Duchess will not be taking to the dancefloor in the BBC studios, it was rumoured last year that she might be about to join the judging panel following the departure of Len Goodman.

Speaking last year, Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood suggested that Camilla should join the panel after the press asked who he would like to take over from Mr Goodman.

Craig said: “I don’t want the job (as head judge).

“I would like it to go to somebody else, perhaps somebody unknown.

“Actually my best friend Camilla would’ve great. She’s a fantastic dancer. She moves with such grace and authority.”

Although the BBC haven’t confirmed whether we will see Camilla shape some moves, it seems very likely, as she has not shied away from dancing in public in the past.

Strictly Come Dancing is one of the UK’s most watched television programmes, and regularly draws an audience in excess of 10m viewers.

Now in its fifteenth series, Strictly has been exported to over 40 other countries worldwide, including America where the show is branded as Dancing with the Stars.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Christmas special will air on Christmas Day on BBC One.
