Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall make annual visit to Sandringham Flower Show

On Wednesday, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall enjoyed a day at the 137th Sandringham Flower Show in Norfolk, held on The Queen’s private estate.

The pair arrived at the flower show in a horse-drawn carriage and made their way through the crowds to meet and greet the thousands of people that awaited their arrival.

On what was one of the hottest days of the year, the Duchess of Cornwall wore a floral frock and had a lace parasol in hand to help keep her cool.

A well-wisher told the Duchess, “You look lovely and cool”, to which she laughed and replied: “I’m not sure that will be the case by the end of this.”

The Duchess of Cornwall’s attention was caught by a woman in a T-shirt which read ‘when I die my Jack Russell gets everything’. The Duchess told her: “I like your T-shirt, I’ll have to get one like that.”

The Prince of Wales wore a beige suit with Ray Ban sunglasses and was cracking jokes to the crowd. One member of the public had brought her two terriers to the show, and the Prince commented that she had “a hot dog.”

The Prince of Wales also stopped at an ice cream van and spoke to the seller, Stephan Meredith, from Shrewsbury. Afterwards, Mr Meredith joked: “He asked about if we were selling alright – I said no because you’re standing right in front of the van.”

Inside the tents, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall admired the competition displays which included gardens, flowers, vegetables and cakes.

The Duchess of Cornwall met actor John Challis, who played Boycie in Only Fools and Horses, and was shown his book on gardening.

The Sandringham Flower Show is held every year and features local produce, community stalls, steam engines and fairground rounds among many other attractions.
