Prince Charles reveals joy of becoming a grandfather

Prince Charles has revealed his joy of becoming a grandfather for the first time.

The Prince of Wales was visiting Gloucestershire on Thursday morning, when he spoke of his happiness at becoming a grandfather after the birth of his son Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge’s first child, Prince George.

Prince Charles has revealed he is already enjoying being a grandfather.

“He said it was really fun being a grandfather,” revealed schoolboy George Austin, 9, who asked the Prince about the royal baby. “He said it was great meeting him at the hospital.”

Charles was visiting the area to open a new garden at Kemble railway station, and as he arrived he was met by well-wishers who lined the streets with flags and gifts for the latest addition to the Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their first child to the world on Monday, as Kate gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 8Ibs 6oz.  Prince Charles, with wife the Duchess of Cornwall, first met the royal baby on Tuesday, after visiting just hours after Kate’s parents Michael and Carole Middleton arrived at the hospital.

The proud parents made their first appearance with the mini monarch-to-be, who will be titled ‘Prince George of Cambridge’, on Tuesday afternoon as they departed the Lindo Wing.

The Duke and Duchess smiled and waved to the hundreds of well-wishers who had lined the streets alongside the media who had been camped outside the hospital since the beginning of July.

Prince William joked he would remind the little Prince of his “tardiness” when he is older after making the world wait so long, while Kate revealed the whole experience had been a “very emotional” one.

The royal trio have now left London and are residing at Kate’s parents’ house in Bucklebury, Berkshire.
