Prince Charles has some health advice, do yoga

As the future King, Prince Charles has many duties under his belt. However, those duties don’t make the Prince shy away from the importance of health.

Prince Charles has claimed that if more people take yoga classes, then the NHS could save on ‘precious and expensive’ resources because of both the physical and mental benefits of yoga.

Charles has long been an advocate for alternative medicines and therapies. In a written address to the Yoga In Healthcare conference, Charles said: ‘For thousands of years, millions of people have experienced yoga’s ability to improve their lives. The development of therapeutic yoga is, I believe, an excellent example of how yoga can contribute to health and healing.

‘This not only benefits the individual, but also conserves precious and expensive health resources for others.’

The Prince said that classes also had ‘tremendous social benefits’ as well as health benefits. Noting that one can build ‘discipline, self-reliance and self-care’ through yoga.

The Prince of Wales went on to add that he was ‘delighted’ to find that the London conference was looking into the benefits of yoga and that he would be watching the development of therapeutic yoga throughout the UK with ‘great interest.’

The NHS website already suggests that yoga is more beneficial for those with high blood pressure, heart disease and, aches and pains – including lower back pain, depression and stress. Last month, Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced that with the NHS Long Term Plan, more spending would be used for yoga classes.

While Charles did not say how often he participates in a dose of yoga, his daughter-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex, has spoken on numerous occasions for her love of the activity. Even while pregnant, the Duchess has been known to get up in the early hours of the morning to indulge in a bit of yoga.
