Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall: Day one in Wales

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have begun their annual summer tour of Wales.
Each summer, Prince Charles and The Duchess spend a week at Llwynywermod, their farmhouse home in Carmarthenshire, undertaking a series of engagements around Wales.

The theme of this year’s visit is “Celebrating Wales, past, present and future”.

The Royal visits on Monday began in South West Wales, touring a food firm using time-honoured techniques, a woollen mill and a cheese factory.

The first engagement began with a visit to Cnwd Food Company at Cross Hands where he watched how staff smokes sewin, caught locally from coracles using traditional techniques. Sea trout, or sewin as they are called in Wales, are migratory forms of native brown trout.

Charles second stop of the day had him visit Melin Tregwynt woollen mill near Fishguard, Pembrokeshire.

The Prince, who is the patron of The Campaign for Wool, met staff members involved in design, weaving, stitching and dispatching during a tour of the mill.

Charles launched The Campaign for Wool five years ago. Its goal is to foster collaboration between a global community of wool-growers, major fashion designers, retailers, manufacturers, artisans and interior designers.

The Prince of Wales also attended an event marking the growth of the rural heritage and textiles industries in Wales, organised by Creative Skillset Cymru.

The final event of the day had The Prince tour the Caws Cenarth cheese factory at Lancych, Carmarthenshire, which he last visited in 1998.

Tuesday, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have a busy day in Wales, including a visit to Dumfries House with Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh. Follow Royal Central as we will report on the day’s events.
