Prince Charles and Camilla are in search for a housekeeper

Should you fancy a housekeeping job with the British Royal Family, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall are currently in search of a housekeeping manager for the Duchy of Cornwall, Prince Charles’s private Cornish estate.

The successful applicant would not be responsible for such tasks as dusting and cleaning, but would be expected to work as a part of a small team as they visit and monitor the estate’s holiday cottages in the middle of Cornwall. As with all jobs involving the Royal family, the selected person is expected to be hardworking and conscientious, with high standards regarding their work.

Earlier this year, it was reveled that The Queen was seeking someone to fill the position of the Palace Attendant at Buckingham Palace. Additionally, Prince Charles’ younger brother, Prince Andrew, was a part of the effort to recruit people to work for the Royal Household. However, the housekeeping position will not be managed by the Royal Household, as the Duchy of Cornwall is a private estate.

The Duchy of Cornwall was established in the 14th century, by the Plantagenet King Edward III, to provide independence and a source of income to his eldest son, Edward Woodstock, the Duke of Cornwall (famously known as the Black Prince). Since its creation, the Duchy has been passed from one Duke of Cornwall to the next, with the title being such that it may only be bestowed upon someone who is both the eldest son of the reigning Monarch and heir presumptive to the throne. Upon his mother’s accession in 1952, Prince Charles became the 24th Duke of Cornwall and inherited the Duchy of Cornwall.

The Duchy consists of over 53,000 hectares of land, spread across 24 counties in the south-west of England. The revenue generated from the estate is used to fund the Duke of Cornwall’s private and charitable activities, as well as those of his children, Princes William and Harry. In his position as the Duke of Cornwall, Prince Charles has actively participated in the running of the Duchy. He follows a philosophy of nurturing and improving the estate, so that when it is passed on the Prince William, and subsequently Prince George, they receive it in a better and stronger condition.

The housekeeping position at the Duchy of Cornwall comes with a salary of between £14,000 and £16,000 a year. Those interested have until next Friday, the 6th of June, to apply for the position.
