Music to their ears: Charles and Camilla attend Norfolk concert

The Prince of Wales, Patron, Music in Country Churches, attended a concert at The Church of St Mary, Old Hunstanton in Norfolk on Tuesday. Joining Prince Charles for the event was The Duchess of Cornwall.

The concert conducted by Kaspar Zehnder, featured the English Chamber Orchestra, with Anna Hashimoto (clarinet), Amy Harman (bassoon) and Harpist to The Prince of Wales, Hannah Stone.

Reinstated in 2000, the post of Official Harpist to The Prince of Wales helps to celebrate and cultivate musical talent in Wales and to increase the profile of the harp as an instrument.

The programme included Richard Strauss’s Duet – Concertino for clarinet, bassoon, harp and strings.

Joining Charles and his wife on Tuesday evening, were the couples Sandringham House guests.

Supported by Prince Charles, Music in Country Churches began as a charitable trust in 1989. It is celebrating its twenty-sixth season.

The Prince in speaking about his Patronage:

“Having attended so many of the Trust’s concerts, I have had the opportunity to see and share in the enormous pleasure given by outstanding performances of great works in some of our finest churches and in areas where music of such a standard is rarely or never available. It is one of the Trust’s unique achievements that it has been able to take music of this quality to the countryside and at the same time make significant contributions to over seventy churches to help with the costs of their upkeep.”

The Trusts goals are to coordinate musical evenings in rural churches of incomparable appeal and interest, as well as raise funds to support those churches with the costs of their repair and maintenance.

The evening concerts are given by artists of global renown, and scheduled during the summer months in numerous parts of the country.

Music in Country Churches have visited over 55 churches, in nine counties and have donated £494,500 to 74 churches.

Charles has been Patron of Music in Country Churches since 1989 and of the English Chamber Orchestra since 1977.
