The Duchess of Cornwall will host a reception for representatives of the credit union sector, business leaders and other stakeholders to mark International Credit Union Day at Clarence House on Thursday.
The Duchess of Cornwall’s interest in credit unions began after a 2010 visit to North Wiltshire Credit Union in Chippenham. She feels that credit unions do a valuable job in their local communities and she wants more people to know about them. In the past few years, she has visited various branches throughout the country and has herself begun learning more about their structure and services.
Joining Camilla at the reception will be banking, political and business representatives as well as credit union members and celebrity supporters. Television presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford will join The Duchess along with Irish singer-songwriter Imelda May and Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis.
Since 1948, International Credit Union day has been celebrated annually, on the third Thursday in October.
The Duchess has visited six other credit unions in England, Scotland, Wales and most recently, the Assiniboine Credit Union in Manitoba, Canada.
