Camilla will join horse whisperer in event to support The Brooke at the Royal Mews

The Duchess of Cornwall will attend a horse whispering demonstration by Brooke Global Ambassador Monty Roberts at the Royal Mews on Wednesday, 21 October.

Following the demonstration, The Duchess will attend a reception.

Since 2006, Camilla has been President of The Brooke.

The Duchess commented: “As its President, I wholeheartedly support the Brooke in their vital work across the globe, and feel assured that the lives of these working animals and their owners are being changed for the better with the support of this wonderful charity.”

The Brooke is an international animal welfare charity committed to changing the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules. The charity works with owners, communities and others to improve the lives of working animals.

The Brooke was founded in Egypt in the 1930s by Dorothy Brooke, the wife of a British cavalry officer. She found many emaciated former British, Australian, and American horses who served in World War 1 being used to carry or pulls heavy loads throughout Cairo.

The charity now works in 11 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America reaching more than 1.8 million working horses, donkeys, and mules.

Celebrated “horse whisperer” Monty Roberts became a Brooke Global Ambassador earlier this year.

Roberts is an award-winning horse trainer, best-selling author, and the creator of Join-Up an equine training technique. His ambassadorship was announced in March when Brooke USA was officially launched by the Camilla during her visit to Louisville, Kentucky.

The one-day stop in Louisville concluded Prince Charles and Camilla’s four-day visit to the United States.

“We were honored to have Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall with us,” said Fundraising Development Manager for the Brooke USA Cindy Rullman. “Since she began her role as President in 2006, Her Royal Highness has given the Brooke, and the animals and people whom we serve, the international awareness we need to advance the cause for the poor and suffering in our world today. She is keeping us on track to achieve our goal of reaching 2 million working equines, benefitting 12 million people, each year by 2016.”

“I am very proud to be the president of the Brooke,” said Camilla in 2014 during an event celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Brooke. “I love horses, and I’ve ridden all my life, so I am passionate about the work of this unique charity. Its determination to improve the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules in many countries where animals are not so respected and loved as they are here is legendary.”
