The Duchess of Cornwall to miss Princess Eugenie’s wedding

The Duchess of Cornwall will miss Princess Eugenie marry her long-term partner Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel next Friday as she already has a prior commitment.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Camilla will instead conduct an engagement at a school in Scotland keeping a promise she made to the schoolchildren over eight months ago.

It is understood that the Duchess will be the only senior member of The Royal Family to be absent from the ceremony, despite the Duke and Duchess of York trying to persuade her otherwise.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “When this date was proposed, she said that regrettably, she couldn’t come.

“The family understood, particularly Eugenie, and were fine about it owing to her previous commitment. Camilla didn’t want to let anyone down.”

Eugenie and Jack will marry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor next Friday.

The couple were engaged in Nicaragua while on holiday at the beginning of 2018. Princess Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank met at the Swiss resort of Verbier where Eugenie was on a family vacation celebrating her father’s 50th birthday. Mr Brooksbank is now manager of Mahiki, a nightclub in Mayfair but before that, he worked at Chelsea’s Admiral Codrington pub, then the Markham Inn. In a past interview with the Daily Mail, he said that his future dream is to open a line of pubs.

Following in the footsteps of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Eugenie and Jack have invited 1,200 people from across the United Kingdom to the grounds of Windsor Castle to share the experience of their special day.

A palace spokesperson said: “The attendees will view the arrival of the congregation and Members of the Royal Family, listen to a live broadcast of the Marriage Service and watch as the Bride and Groom depart St George’s Chapel at the end of the ceremony.”

Once the service has ended, the newly married couple will undertake a short carriage procession through part of Windsor High Street.

The carriage will process through the grounds of Windsor Castle, departing via Castle Hill to proceed along part of the High Street before returning to the Castle via Cambridge Gate.
