This week we saw glittering gowns in Denmark, a familiar style for Kate at the Anna Freud Centre, and an array of colourful outfits as the Countess of Wessex toured India. Let’s take a look at the fashion highlights:
Danish royals at Princess Benedikte’s birthday party
Queen Margrethe of Denmark hosted a 75th birthday party for her sister, Princess Benedikte, on Monday. The Princess arrived in style, pulling up at Amalienborg Palace in a horse-drawn carriage and an elegant turquoise gown.
The gown featured a sheer overlay with a swirly metallic turquoise print and drapey, cape-style sleeves. She accessorised with a flower-shaped diamond brooch, a diamond necklace, and diamond drop earrings.
Queen Margrethe chose a deep purple gown with long, sheer sleeves and black lace accents. The bottom of the gown, trimmed with black beadwork, features a subtle tiered ruffle accent. She added a four-strand pearl necklace, and sparkling amethyst drop earrings.
Crown Princess Mary arrived in a stunning navy gown by Lasse Spangenberg. The one-shouldered style features delicate lace and floral accents at the top, trailing down into a sheer long sleeve. The waist is cinched with a ribbon belt and flares out into a full, swirly chiffon skirt.
She previously wore the gown to a 2018 dinner for the armed forces, according to Royal Central’s Europe Correspondent, Heaven Lee Miller.
The Countess of Wessex tours India
The Countess of Wessex headed to India on behalf of The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust this week (read our coverage of the tour so far here: day one, day two, day three). A look at two of my favourite outfits:
On Monday, Sophie toured several hospitals in Hyderabad. She wore a magenta blouse with long, full sleeves and a pleated neckline paired with colourful orange and pink printed trousers. According to Replicate Royalty, she debuted a new pair of sandals, the tan leather platform “Jackie” leather sandals by Penelope Chilvers.

Later in the day, she attended a reception to meet graduating midwives, wearing a green frock we’ve seen before. The lime green ‘Brooke’ dress, from ARoss Girl by Amanda Ross, fit right in with the bright shades of the midwives saris. The tea-length dress, made in silk crepe, has pleated short sleeves and a slit at the neck that can be worn fastened for more modesty, as Sophie did at the event.
She added another pop of colour with a fuschia sash belt and a pink scarf draped over her shoulder, along with the same Penelope Chilvers ‘Tango’ shoes we saw her wear last week to RAF Wittering, but in the tan/ultraviolet colourway.

Overall, the Countess of Wessex’s tour fashion was a success. Giving a nod to the bright colours and beautifully patterned fabrics worn by Indian women – as well as the high temperatures outside – it made perfect sense to carry out many of her engagements in vibrant, lightweight blouses and loose, patterned trousers. Choosing modest, midi-length dresses and adding a scarf for more formal events gave her a professional look whilst honouring the culture of her host country.
The Duchess of Cambridge visits the Anna Freud Centre
On Wednesday, Kate opened the new Kantor Centre of Excellence for one of her patronages, The Anna Freud Centre. She arrived in a lovely but familiar look, wearing a long-sleeved solid green dress.
The frock, a bespoke piece by Emilia Wickstead, looks nearly identical to a lavender dress she already owns by the brand. With a banded waist, darts at the bust, and a fit and flare silhouette, the piece only has one difference to the lavender style: a square neckline.
Green seems to be Kate’s colour this year, and she owns some quite similar dresses already, such as her Beulah London piece in the same shade. What Kate Wore pointed out that green is the colour for children’s mental health awareness, and with May being Mental Health Awareness Month, it was a fitting tribute. But with a lot of chat on social media about her buying nearly identical outfits in different colours – or in this case, yet another solid green dress – one does wonder if a repeat of the Beulah dress wouldn’t have made more sense on this occasion.
The Duchess chose a Mulberry clutch and matching Gianvito Rossi praline heels, both repeats, as well as her Kiki McDonough ‘Candy’ Green Amethyst and Diamond Pendant and Classic Green Amethyst and Diamond Earrings, per What Kate Wore. We don’t often see her wear a necklace these days, and the pendant was a nice addition to the outfit.
