Prince & Princess of Wales

The Duchess of Cambridge is in labour

The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and other members of The Royal Family were informed ‘as soon as possible’ following the admission of The Duchess of Cambridge to St Mary’s Hospital in London this morning. A Kensington Palace spokesman confirmed that senior royals were given the news that Kate is in labour as early as was feasible – The Duchess was taken to hospital around 6am this morning.

The official announcement that the royal baby was on its way stated that The Duchess was ‘in the early stages’ of labour and Kate was taken to hospital around the same time as she was admitted when her labour with Prince George began. Her first child was born around 11 hours after labour started which means we could get an announcement sometime late this afternoon.

The royal baby’s birth will be tweeted to the quarter of a million followers of the Kensington Palace account as well as being confirmed in a press release. And as is traditional the announcement will be placed on an easel outside Buckingham Palace.

But the world will have to wait for news of the royal birth for several hours after it actually happens – senior royals and family members will, of course, be told first and when Prince George was born William and Kate wanted to have some time by themselves with their son before the news was made public. The Great Kate Wait goes on.

Royal Central will have the very latest on the birth of the royal baby – stay with us and our Chief Reporter, James Brookes, through the day.
