The Duchess of Cambridge: Could Kate Be Heading Back To Scotland?

The Art Room is set to open its first branch in Scotland leading to excitement over the prospect of a royal visit by The Duchess of Cambridge.

The Art charity which is supported by Kate, plans to open its first branch in the region based at the Wester Hailes Education Centre.

The Art Room aims to help school children aged five to sixteen with their self-esteem through art and it is expected that the Scotland branch will open up in January – around the time it is likely Kate will have returned to royal duties after maternity leave.

Principal Sheila Paton said she was pleased to be fronting the national charity, which supported the school’s ethos.

“Our School motto is ‘Together we will succeed’ and working with The Art Room encapsulates our vision,” Shelia said.

“We welcome the opportunity it will bring us to support young people in our community.

“Although in the first instance this will be for young people in the Wester Hailes community, our vision is that The Art Room will develop as an outreach centre, where young people across the city who are at risk of disengaging from education can access nurture and support.”

Last month, Kate attended a reception at the National Portrait Gallery to celebrate The Art Room’s 11th birthday and the launch of their Pledge for the Future appeal. The Duchess mingled with guests before making a speech.

“I am a firm believer in the power of art to make a difference and The Art Room is doing that on a daily basis” Kate said.

‘We all stand here tonight to celebrate this wonderful work. I hope that you will join me in congratulating The Art Room and their supporters on these extraordinary achievements.”

The Duchess of Cambridge continued: “As patron of The Art Room, I feel immense pride to see the amazing work that they are doing but I also feel hugely excited to look to a future with more Art Rooms, where many more challenging and vulnerable children will be helped.”

The Duchess of Cambridge became patron of The Art Room in 2012.

In Scotland, Kate is known as Her Royal Highness The Countess of Strathearn. Along with Prince William, Kate visited Scotland in early April on a two-day visit, the trip saw them tour the region and join Prince Charles for an engagement. The couple previously visited Scotland to attend Zara Phillips wedding to Mike Tindall in 2011, just months after their own wedding.
