Prince William to be at Polo match in Gloucestershire this Sunday, as Kate prepares to give birth

His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge will attend a polo match at a club in Gloucestershire on Sunday, despite his wife the Duchess of Cambridge being due to give birth any time now.large_5693915573

The Duke will play in the Jerudong Trophy match at the Cotswolds club on Sunday. According to the Daily Mail, the Duchess of Cambridge is due on 13th July.

Royal sources say that Palace officials have expressed that Prince William’s attendance at the match is subject to the Duchess’s status.

Kate is currently staying in London in prep for the birth date, when she will go to St Mary’s hospital, Lindo Wing to give birth to the newest member of the British Royal Family.

Media have been outside the Lindo wing with stepladders since the beginning of the month – it is not known for sure [it hasn’t been confirmed] what the Duchess of Cambridge’s due date is, though the Palace say it’s mid-July.

A Kensington Palace spokesman confirmed to the Daily Mail that Prince William intended to play polo this weekend, unless his wife went into labour.

‘The Duke will play at Cirencester on Sunday if he can and obviously he won’t if he can’t,’ he said.

‘The charities benefiting are Child Bereavement UK, Centrepoint and WellChild. ‘

The world’s media are on Royal Baby watch at the moment. Some members of the media have gone to strange lengths to stave off the boredom of waiting for the arrival.

Sky News’s Paul Harrison tweeted pictures of inventive tags reporters had placed on the mass of ladders in the press area outside the Lindo Wing.

Royal fathers being away during labour is nothing new, however. In 1948 when Prince Charles was born, Prince Philip was playing squash with his private secretary Michael Parker.

From what the Palace say, Prince William will of course make every effort to be present at the birth.
