Update: Prince William and David Beckham launch new United for Wildlife campaign

The Duke of Cambridge, who is President of Unite for Wildlife, launched the latest #WhoseSideAreYouOn campaign at Google Town Hall in London on Monday 9th June.

The campaign harnesses the power of sport to raise awareness of conservation issues around the world. The Duke was joined by David Beckham at the campaign’s launch. The footballer heads a team of high profile sporting stars backing this campaign to engage young people’s support on social networks to combat the illegal trade in wildlife products.

#WhoseSideAreYouOn is a new campaign for United for Wildlife and asks the next generation to decide on which side they are on; the side of critically endangered species or the criminals who kill them for money? It is not only David Beckham who is supporting the campaign; Andy Murray, Rahul Dravid and Francois Piennaar, among others, are also lending their support.

At Monday’s event, the Duke of Cambridge officially launched the campaign. The generation it aims to engage are those who will use social network sites to get involved and raise awareness of the issue. The campaign will run across the United for Wildlife social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook and You Tube.

United for Wildlife is a collaboration between seven of the worlds most influential conservation organisations and the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. A key aim of this alliance with regards to conservation is to engage and inspire young people and the next generation of conservation leaders at a very critical period in this field.

The seven conservation organisations that are partnered with the Royal Foundation for United for Wildlife are: Conservation International, Fauna and Flora International, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, The Nature Conservancy, Wildlife Conservation Society, WWF UK and the Zoological Society of London.
