The Daily Telegraph has published its list of Britons of the Year, naming Prince George of Cambridge – newborn son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and future King – as its Briton of the Year for 2013.

Prince George, born in July this year, is already without doubt the world’s most famous baby. This young Prince, who is expected to reign into the 22nd century, will one day be the face of Britain in the same way as his great-grandmother Elizabeth II is now.

In an article today, the Telegraph explained their reasoning for choosing the baby Prince as Briton of the Year over the 9 other candidates in their final shortlist, saying: “he represents continuity in a time of change, just as his forebears have done.”

The Prince’s birth was the first royal birth to be received in the digital age – also becoming one of the most popular Internet topics, The Telegraph explained, “Not only was the future king the most searched-for Briton on Google in 2013, he was also the third most-searched term of any description among UK users.”

In a shortlist with other such names as Theresa May, the UK’s Home Secretary and Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray – Prince George came out on top, with the Telegraph highlighting the tremendous power the Royal Family has to bind the nation together in celebration – the baby Prince being the source of that this year.

Prince George is expected to accompany his parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on a tour of New Zealand and Australia in April, which will be his first time travelling overseas. It will probably be the only time Prince George visits the two countries as a child, though one day he is expected to be King of the two realms as well as 14 others.
