Prince George attends his first grouse shoot

On Friday, the Queen and the Duchess of Cambridge took Prince George, five, to his first grouse shoot.

Prince George got to watch his father, the Duke of Cambridge, and his older relatives shoot down the birds in the hills during his first experience of grouse shooting.

Grouse shooting is a popular field sport in the UK and involves the hunting of the red grouse. It is seen as challenging due to the rapid flight of the bird.

The Queen was spotted driving herself to the event which took place on her Balmoral estate in Scotland. The Duchess of Cambridge drove herself and Prince George.

Following the grouse shooting, members of the royal family enjoyed lunch with the Queen. This included the Prince of Wales, the Cambridges, Prince Edward, Sophie the Countess of Wessex and their children, Princess Anne, and Zara and Mike Tindall.

Prince George will be making the most of his Summer holiday before he heads back to school in September. He will be starting Year 1 at Thomas’s Battersea, which costs £17,604 a year.

A number of subjects will be studied by Prince George, including maths, English, science and history, as well as religious studies were students will read the Bible and learn about the different cultures in Britain.

Prince George will also study ballet for 35 minutes a week due to it being a compulsory subject at the school. A live piano player performs as students learn how to do ballet.

Last year, only the Duke of Cambridge accompanied a nervous looking Prince George to school on his first day at Thomas’s Battersea. The Duchess of Cambridge, who was pregnant with Prince Louis at the time, was unable to attend due to suffering from morning sickness.

It is not known whether both parents will be present this time around as Prince George starts his first day of Year 1.
