Prince & Princess of Wales

Praise for his wife and words of love for his children as William starts his new job

It is the beginning of a new chapter in his life but as The Duke of Cambridge reported for work on his first day as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance today his thoughts were with his family. He had warm words for his son and daughter but above all praise for his wife as he spoke about their home life.

The Duke of Cambridge has praised his wife in an interview given as he starts his new job. William also spoke in glowing terms about their son and daughter.

In an interview with the BBC given as he began his new role, Prince William  showed just how much being a father and a husband means to him. He describes Princess Charlotte as ‘a little joy of heaven’ and says that he realises how much more work is involved now the Cambridges have become four adding ‘it is more responsibility looking after two little ones‘.

And he gives us another insight of life with Prince George, describing his son affectionately as ‘a little monkey’ before telling the BBC that ‘it is fantastic having a little family’.  But the warmest words are saved for his wife. The Duke of Cambridge says ‘Catherine has been doing an amazing job as a mother and I’m very proud of her’.

The comments came as Captain William Wales reported for duty spot on 7am on his first day as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance. He began his operational shifts in wet and grey weather at his new base of Cambridge Airport from where he will fly Helicopter Emergency Medical Service missions for the service. He will be working alongside specialist doctors and critical care paramedics as well as other pilots, all providing emergency medical services across four counties – Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The job will be busy – last year, EAAA took part in 1,785 missions from its two bases in Cambridge and Norwich. And William intends to keep on juggling it with his royal role. In the same interview he said ‘at some point there is probably going to be a lot more pressure and responsibility from the other side of my life. At the moment I’m juggling the two of them…inevitably down the line things will probably become a little more difficult for me to do that’.

And as well as speaking about his children and his wife, William spoke about himself and why he was so excited about taking on his new job. ‘Doing a job like this is worthwhile, valuable and to me there’s an element of duty about it, I’m really quite keen to be involved…for me it’s also a really important point to be grounded, I feel doing a job like this really helps with grounding, the core of what I’m trying to become.’ When asked what that was he replied ‘just trying to be a good guy, trying to do what you can, trying to be a decent individual’.

But it was the glowing words he had for his son, daughter and wife that really caught everyone’s attention. As Prince William began work his thoughts were very much with the three most important people in his life.
