Police issue warning to media over Cambridges’ privacy

imageNorfolk police have been handing out letters warning the media not to harass the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family whilst staying at Anmer Hall, their home on The Queen’s Sandringham Estate.

This news comes the day after the Cambridge family, including five day old Princess Charlotte, travelled from Kensington Palace to Anmer Hall where they expect to live in more privacy.

The letter, signed by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Communications Secretary, asks photographers respect their privacy after instances in the past involving “a number of intrusions” by people with long lenses.

The letter to the media says as follows:

“As you are aware, Anmer Hall is part of the Sandringham Estate which is a private estate and whilst in residence and whilst in residence Members of the Royal Family and their guests have a more than reasonable expectation of privacy.”

“There have in the past been a number of intrusions into the privacy of the Royal Family which in the main have been as a result of professional photographers using long-distance lenses, not only to observe the Royal Family, but also to photograph them going about their activities on the estate,” the letter says, adding that previous warnings given to photographers had helped the situation. The Sandringham Estate trusts that there will not be a need to take any further action other than bringing these points to your attention.”

Anmer Hall is a Georgian mansion situated two miles east of The Queen’s residence and dates back to around 1800, although it is believed that some parts are much older.

The 10-bedroom country retreat was a gift to the couple from Her Majesty following their wedding in 2011. The secluded red brick mansion recently underwent a £1.5 million refurbishment overseen by William and Kate.
